Today's focus was characterization, using the characters in the story "Everyday Use." When determining a character's character traits, you must often make inferences based on what the character says or does, or based on what other characters say about that person. This is INDIRECT characterization. When an author clearly states the traits of a character, that author is using DIRECT characterization. Both are important.
