Thursday Thoughts - What is your opinion of sarcasm? Why do you think this way?
We spent some time discussing the fact that the words that Mark Twain gives his characters to say do not necessarily portray Twain's own views. Pap's drunken rant is a prime example. Sometimes Twain may believe just the opposite of what some of his characters say, so careful evaluation is necessary to discern Twain's message.
You should have read through chapter 10 by tomorrow.

Today we did our M.U.G.shots that were neglected yesterday. We continued with our discussion and reading of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Be sure to choose a theme to follow if you have not already done so and make sure you are making note of places that theme appears in the book. Read through chapter five for tomorrow. Work through the packet for chapters 1-15 as you are able. It is due next Tuesday.

Today we began our reading of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. We listened to/read chapter 1 in class, and chapter 2 is assigned for tonight's reading.
The chapters 1-15 packet should be completed as the reading is done and will be due after those chapters are done.
It is important to choose a theme to follow throughout the book. Do this early on, so you have plenty of time to make note of references to that theme. This is important for the final essay due at the end of the unit.
